There is a difference between being “called” and being “sent.”  In order to correctly handle the Word of Truth, we must be diligent learners of the Holy Scriptures. We must seek revelation and knowledge of key elements of the ministry, so that once sent, we may be instant in season and out, always prepared to give a reason for the hope that we have in Jesus Christ.

Paul admonishes Christians in his letter to Timothy (II Timothy 2:15) to study, to show ourselves approved. Not only will an education in the ministry improve our effectiveness in delivering the message of the gospel, but it will also develop our integrity, character, doctrine, and discipline, so that we may present ourselves as a workman who doesn’t need to be ashamed.  Who, without any formal education, would consider themselves qualified to teach?  In the same manner, a soldier would not enter into battle without preparation or without armor.  Ephesians 6:13-17 lists “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” and tells us to have our “feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.”  Not only must we study the Word, but prior to being ‘sent,’ we must be made ready by knowing the Word – by making it a part of who we are.

As our former education coordinator, Dr. Edith Baker said, “You have stated your ‘call’ and now, preparing to embark on a journey. This journey will not be easy, nor should it be. This journey will cost you time, energy and resources, for anything obtained without cost, is esteemed of less value.”  As the story of David clearly states; “And King David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.”   I Chronicles 21:24

Prayers and Blessings to you as you hearken to your calling!
